The head of the sheep meat union said in an interview with Hashemshari Online about the reasons for the increase in the price of red meat: The main reason for the high price of meat in the country is due to the high price of livestock.
Ali Asghar Maleki added: Everyone says why meat is expensive, while it can be said that meat is not expensive, but livestock is expensive and meat is dependent on livestock. Currently, the price of live sheep is 130 thousand tomans per kilo. That’s why we have to look for raw materials, which are live and expensive. Because meat cannot be hoarded and kept, and the longer you keep it, the price will drop automatically. Therefore, the seller is determined to supply the meat very quickly and replace it with fresh meat. On the other hand, in our culture it is preferable to eat fresh meat.
Maleki also said about the reasons for the high price of live livestock: Alig and fodder are expensive. Now a kilo of barley costs 13 thousand tomans, and the farmer raises his livestock with this grain, and when he sells it to the market, it becomes more expensive.
The head of the mutton union said about the lack of livestock in the country: At present, the supply of livestock is relatively low, and due to the recent rains, transportation has also become problematic, and all of these factors have caused inflammation in the red meat market. But livestock support matters are based on using their strategic reserves.
Reduction of red meat consumption per capita
Reports indicate that per capita meat consumption has decreased in Iran. According to some reports, the per capita consumption of Iranian red meat has reached below 12 kilos per year. Others have mentioned this number as about 6 kg per year. Maliki confirmed that the amount of red meat consumed by Iranian households has decreased due to the high prices compared to previous years, and added: In the current situation, due to the increase in the cost of the household basket, it is good if the per capita consumption reaches 6 kg, but the standard is 12 kg.
Will the price of meat decrease?
Last week, the Ministry of Agricultural Jihad announced the importation of hot sheep meat at a price of 200,000 tomans per kilo in fruit and vegetable markets, stores and retail stores in the city from the middle of this week. The head of the mutton union said: We have also heard this news, but we cannot talk about it until it is implemented. But if this happens, it will be effective in controlling and reducing price inflation in the meat market.
The head of the mutton union said about the price of red meat in the coming days: The conditions are such that we cannot predict the prices, but considering that the distribution of frozen meat is being done and if the import of hot meat is done, it can definitely depress the market.
