According to this organization, five billion people out of eight billion people in the world do not have enough protection against trans fats.
The consequences of consuming these types of fats cause half a million people in the world to die prematurely every year. Consuming artificial unsaturated fats especially causes discomfort and heart diseases.
Tedros Adhanom, Secretary General of the World Health Organization said: Trans fats are poisonous and deadly substances. It is time to stop adding these artificial fats to the world’s food.
The World Health Organization called on the governments of the world to severely restrict the licensing of artificial trans fats.
According to the report of this organization, Egypt, Pakistan and South Korea are among the countries where the use of these types of fats is high.
At the same time, a positive trend to reduce the consumption of these fats is currently observed in the countries of Argentina, Bangladesh, India, Paraguay, the Philippines, and Ukraine.
The World Health Organization called on the world’s fat and oil producers to remove trans fats from the products they sell to food manufacturers.
Trans fats are also found in nature and a small amount of them are found naturally and mainly in foods with animal sources such as butter, milk, cream and meat. Hence, there is a distinction between natural trans fat and industrial or artificial trans fat.
The World Health Organization decided to completely eliminate artificial unsaturated fats from the food production cycle by this year (2023).
Denmark is one of the leading countries in this field and about 20 years ago, it severely limited the use of industrial unsaturated fats and oils. This has caused the cases of heart and digestive diseases to decrease in this country.
According to Deutsche Welle, sweets that are fried in oil, products containing fried potatoes, as well as ready meals that are offered in supermarkets are among the products that contain high levels of artificial unsaturated fats.
